This Friday's Question:
Bookish Trends: What are some bookish trends you are noticing in the literature world today? Is there a particular trend you'd like to see more of?

A trend I've been noticing in YA is the appearance of mermaids and sirens. Mermaids and sirens are the new vampires and werewolves ;) I LOVE this trend, I've been fascinated with mermaids ever since I watched The Little Mermaid as a kid (I SO wanted to be Ariel!).

Also, as my buddy Alexa mentioned in her post: strong female characters. Of course I am loving this trend as well! I like my characters wellrounded and while I also appreciate the pure kickbutting thing that some have going on, the characters that I really love are the ones that also have a sensitive side.

What I'd really like to see more of is main characters in their late teens/early twenties, more college-aged characters. It's not really a trend, but I would like to see more of it ;)

What are things that have caught your attention? Or anything you're wishing to appear in books more often?

Love Stories: What are some of your favorite fictional love stories?

For a hopeless romantic like me, this is a pretty hard question ;) But I'll do my best not to rant on for too long.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen: Well OF COURSE I was going to put this first! It's only my favourite book of all time and the romance between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy is amazing, I love a lovestory where arguments turn into love :)

Anna and The French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: seriously, THIS BOOK! Upon finishing it, I wanted to start all over again! It is amazing and I'm dying to read Lola and fall in love with Cricket :)

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman: HEARTBREAKING! But so beautiful!

Robin Hood: I LOVE the story of Robin Hood and Marianne, though maybe not so much in the recent movie retelling (2011 I think, the one with Russel Crowe). But I've idolised this romance since I was a kid and watched the Disney version and I see no reason whatsoever to stop now :)

The love stories in romance novels I told you I was a hopeless romantic ;) My absolute favourite historical romance authors are Sarah MacLean and Sophie Jordan, these ladies know how to write good romance! And I've recently read 2 books by Julie Anne Long which were also amazing!

TGIF is such a fun feature! I don't participate all that often, but I love reading people's responses :)

This Friday's Question:

Show & Tell: Where do you grab a book and get lost in it? Show us your favorite spot you like to read at.

Even though anytime it's remotely warm outside, I grab my chair and sit on my tiny balcony or sit in my parents' back yard, this has got to be my favourite reading spot:



When I got it (for free, yay for being in college and getting free stuff!), this couch was so horrendously ugly, I had to get that green throw for it. It's collapsed on the side I sit in, but it's so comfy, I don't want to get another one. I got new pillow cases just yesterday, aren't they pretty? :)

I read, watch TV, blog, study, eat in that spot. In other words: I LIVE there. So, if you ever come across me on the interwebs, chances are that's where I am, beneath my pretty new blanket (it's really soft too!), which was a birthday gift. My friends know me well :)

This Friday's Question:
Book Mourning: does this happen to you?
When you finish an amazing book, do you find yourself at a loss to pick up another one? What was the last book that left you feeling so bewildered? & what did you do to overcome it?

In one word: YES!!! Oh my gosh, I sometimes think it's unfair to other books when I've read one I was absolutely going crazy over before I read them. I haven't really checked, but it is likely that it affects the rating they get.
As in book mourning: I MOURNED the Harry Potter series. Seriously, I was so sad for a week after finishing the last one. That was bad. Oh, and the Hunger Games, I mourned the ending of that series as well. And His Dark Materials, that was pretty bad as well. Also, if I love a book, I always hate it when it ends. But I feel the sense of loss more when it's a series and I've invested so much and feel like these characters are my friends/family.

On a side note: I've mourned the ending of TV series as well. I LOVED Ugly Betty and was just staring at the screen in horror when I realised I'd just watched the last ever episode.

So what about you? Any books/series that you mourned after finishing them?
