Daisy Update (35) and Book Haul (11)

Hi guys!

The last two weeks have been sorta busy at work, I had my last Wednesday off, as of March 1st we're getting back to working 5 days a week instead of fulltime in 4 days, which was kinda nice... I'm gonna miss my day off! So to make it an epic last day off, I made Mississippi Mud Pie and it was SO GOOD! SO much chocolate-y goodness! I'm gonna have to make it again soon...

So last week I had a 24-hour shift on Saturday, which was crazy busy and had me just conk out when I got home on Sunday. I slept for 5 hours straight and then got up to go have dinner at my parents', which was nice. Monday through Friday I worked the night shift and while I didn't have it as bad as some of my colleagues had it the last couple of weeks, I'm still really glad the week is over and I can go back to working days.

Night shifts are always full of weird stuff you don't come across during the day. Patients crash, I get requests for consults that are just slightly off, like with one where I told the resident calling me that she should call the ICU because based on what she told me and the blood results that particular patient should be intubated. I get phonecalls asking me things that make me wonder why anyone would call me in the middle of the night for it. It's both fun and slightly annoying.

It did leave me with more time at home and I actually went shopping on Thursday and got pretty new pasta plates (I got a giftcard for the store for my graduation about a year ago, I'm so bad at remembering to take giftcards with me when I go shopping!), new fuzzy slippers, 2 cardigans, hair stuff and new shoes! YAY NEW SHOES! They were 70% off, I'd actually tried them on before, but they were a bit too expensive, but obviously they needed to come home with me now :)

Yesterday the boyfriend and I went out to dinner to one of our favourite Mexican restaurants, I LOVE their food! After we just hung out at home and watched The Big Bang Theory and Once Upon A Time. It was really nice to just spend some time together :)

This week is full of BUSY, but not all bad busy other than that the boyfriend and I probably won't see each other much...
I hope you all have a great week!

  1. I had mixed views of the first Grisha book but am still interested in reading Siege and Storm as I think partly she just tried to squeeze this huge amazing world into too many pages.

    1. Haha ;) I really loved Shadow and Bone, there was a lot of worldbuilding going on, but it didn't bother me. I hope Siege and Storm works better for you!

  3. Wow, that sounds like some super busy days. I always enjoy reading your updates and the funny and sometimes slightly odd things that happen during your shifts :) something I always look forward to on Sundays.
Yeah, for the shoes - I love it when fate (it clearly was fate) manages to reduce something I want and it is still available in my size :) You got some pretty awesome books too - needed to add some to my wish-list.

    1. Awww, you're so sweet!
Haha, yes, it must have been fate! I love it when that happens too! :)

  4. I'm awful about remembering to take my gift cards when I'm shopping, too. I finally had to shove all of them into the side pocket of my purse, so that if I happen to be in a store I have a gift card from, I'll actually *have* the gift card. LOL!

I still haven't read Fever and Sever. Maybe I'll do what you did and pick up a copy of Sever so I can read them both in one shot!

    Have a great week!

    1. Good idea! I've just put all of them in my purse as well :)

  5. Your days have been super busy! Especially that 24-hour shift, that stinks! I know what you mean about being sad to lose that extra day off though. I work 12-hour shifts which people think is a lot, but I get 3 to 4 days off every week and I love that!

The Boleyn King sounds really interesting (love Tudor history) and I seriously have to try Jill Mansell! Her covers are so pretty and they sound so fun, but I have yet to try one out.

Hope you have a great week! :-)

    1. I know! I'd rather work longer days than more days I guess...
You really have to pick up one of Jill Mansell's books when you get a chance! They are such fun reads! And I'm really excited about The Boleyn King! :)

  7. That's an epic book haul! I have an e-galley of The Boleyn King too, hopefully it's good.

And I love reading about your job, it's so different from mine. Night shifts would kill me though - I once went on a residential trip with 30 ten year olds for three days and nights and I was dead on my feet by the end of all the 'midnight feasts' etc.

    1. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of The Boleyn King!

Night shifts can be pretty awful, but at least I get to sleep when everything is quiet. And I don't think I would last a trip with 30 10-year olds, seriously! I love kids, but that many is just overwhelming!

    1. I KNOW RIGHT?! I hope you'll get approved, then we have to read it together! :D And YAY for Siege and Storm! It'll be EPIC!

The nurses love me ;) So they're not hard on me at all usually, I always get drinks and candy from them when I drop by :)

  9. The title that stood out to me in your haul is The Boleyn King. I'm a sucker for that particular period in history, so I definitely can't wait to check out this book - sounds promising to me!
